Local nonprofits receive donations from Rising Tide
Two local nonprofits recently benefited from Rising Tide Community Market’s Co-ops for Community Day donation program, in which 0.5 percent of Wednesday sales are allocated to a different organization each month.
The Community Energy Fund of Lincoln County received a check for $240.09, representing .5 percent of Rising Tide’s Wednesday sales for the month of March 2015. The fund was founded in 2005 to provide fuel and energy assistance to individuals and families living within Lincoln County. The Community Energy Fund assists people who may not qualify for other heating assistance programs. One hundred percent of all contributions to the fund are used to provide assistance to those in need, as the organization is run by volunteers. Between 2005 and 2014, the Community Energy Fund served 2,194 households.
New Hope for Women was the Co-ops for Community Day recipient for April, and received a check for $324.77. New Hope for Women works to end domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking, and provides education and support in Lincoln, Knox, Sagadahoc and Waldo counties. Co-ops for Community Day donation recipients are selected by the co-op’s 3,200-plus member-owners during annual elections each spring. During the month of June, Rising Tide customers can help support the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) by shopping on Wednesdays. July’s donation recipient will be the Eldercare Network of Lincoln County. To learn more about the Co-ops for Community Day program, visit www.risingtide.coop.
