Louis Rego

Louis Rego, 85, of Trevett died December 26 in the Gregory Wing at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.

He was born June 3, 1927 in Fall River, Mass., to Manuel and Mary Reis Rego. He grew up in Fall River and attended local schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 during World War II. He served in the South Pacific. After the war he served in the Coast Guard for 16 years and was stationed in Boston, Mass., South Portland, Portland, Ore., and Juno, Alaska.

He worked as a welder for Bath Iron Works, Goudy & Stevens, and Fuller’s shipyards. 

He enjoyed his vegetable and flower gardens and mowing his lawn, which he kept in pristine shape. 

He was predeceased by his brothers, Manuel, William, George and Thomas Rego; and sisters, Alice Rice Mary Rego, Hilda Dicarlo, Mary Smith and Delores Bensel.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Colleen Rego of Trevett; sons, Michael Rego and his wife Wendy of Boothbay, Timothy and his companion Marion McLellan of Southport and Brian Rego and his wife Patricia of Boothbay; sisters, Anna Beaty of Florida and Rose Davis of Swansea, Mass.; brothers, Edward Rego of Somerset, Mass., Milton Rego of Fall River, Mass., Raymond Rego of New Bedford, Mass., and Amos Rego of Fall River, Mass.; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A committal service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
