MaineHealth launches virtual support group for people living with ALS
MaineHealth is offering a new virtual support group for people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), providing an opportunity for connection, encouragement and shared understanding for patients across Maine.
The MaineHealth Support Group for People Living with ALS is open to patients receiving care through the MaineHealth ALS Specialty Care Clinic in Brunswick. Because individuals with ALS live throughout the state, the group meets virtually, removing travel barriers and making participation more accessible.
The support group brings together people navigating similar challenges to share experiences, build supportive relationships and reduce the isolation that can accompany an ALS diagnosis.
Meetings are held on the last Monday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. The group is facilitated by Brenda Schroeder, RN, BSN-BC, and Tiarra LaPierre, LCSW.
MaineHealth ALS Specialty Care Brunswick is the only comprehensive ALS care center in Maine and is certified by the ALS Association as a Recognized Treatment Center. The clinic provides coordinated, multidisciplinary care focused on quality of life, bringing together specialists in neurology, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, respiratory therapy, nutrition and social work. Patients receive care from multiple specialists during a single visit, with ongoing support tailored to individual needs.
