Minister charged in jail drug case appears in court
The Bremen minister accused of trafficking contraband at Two Bridges Regional Jail was back in court January 31.
Stephen Foote, 70, said nothing during his brief appearance in Lincoln County Superior Court. Attorneys for the prosecution and defense told Justice Paul Fritzsche they are continuing to work to resolve the case through an agreement.
Fritzsche scheduled Foote's next court appearance for March 28.
Foote declined comment as he left the courthouse. He has been free on $1,000 unsecured bail since his arrest November 1. He was charged with Class C trafficking in prison contraband following a monthlong investigation into trafficking of the drug Suboxone at the Wiscasset jail.
The Episcopal Diocese of Maine has put Foote on administrative leave pending the case's outcome He retired as. dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke in Portland in 2003, and had recently served as “transition priest-in-charge” at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Augusta.
