Mooring enforcement coming
Soon, penalties will be chained to those who don't pay for their moorings.
The Damariscotta Board of Selectmen will meet Wednesday, July 16 to discuss the Damariscotta and Newcastle Harbor Committee's plan to curb delinquent mooring owners.
The board will discuss the harbor enforcement, and specifically, mooring owners who have not yet registered their moorings for 2014.
The discussion will likely focus on stronger enforcement for the two towns. In an email, Damariscotta Town Manager Matt Lutkus said that the Damariscotta and Newcastle Harbor Committee's plan was to issue a press release and a paid public notice that will describe why inspection and registration are important.
Non-compliant mooring owners will be notified of the infraction, and for the next boating season a solution would be to drop the mooring chain and impounding the boat.
The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the town office on School Street.
