Moshie Pearlstein
Moshie “Millie” Pearlstein died at home in Edgecomb on February 8, 2014, three months before her 100th birthday.
The child of Eastern European Jewish immigrants, Moshie Pearlstein was born in Manhattan on May 27, 1914. After graduating high school, she worked, first putting filaments into light bulbs, then for the censorship department during World War II, and finally for the City of New York, Department of Finance, until she retired at age 72.
In 1944, she married Wilbert Sexton, and in 1952, they had a daughter, Julianne. Along with working and family life, Millie tended her ailing mother, father and husband. All this was done with generosity of spirit and a true joy of life’s gifts.
After retiring, she spent her time visiting her grandchildren, her nieces and her nephew, and traveling the world with her brother, Carl Pearlstein and sister-in-law, Virginia. When not traveling, Millie spent quality time enjoying New York City's many cultural offerings with her friends.
At the age of 94, she no longer felt comfortable living on her own and she moved from Queens, N.Y., to live in Maine with her daughter and son-in–law.
She is survived by her daughter, Julianne; son-in-law Chris Riser; her granddaughters, Rebecca Riser and Kate Riser; her great-granddaughter, Blythe Miller; her nieces, Kitty Shiotani and Gail Hollingsworth; and nephew Jack Pearlstein; and all their families as well as her dear friends in New York City.
To say that she will be missed does not begin to express the void left by her passing.
