Mother's Day weekend burglary postpones restaurant special
Just as Odeth Busque was waking to a new day on Mother's Day, an officer from the Wiscasset Police Department called and said her son's restaurant, Thai Golden in Wiscasset, had been burglarized.
“We had prepared all this food,” Busque said. Her son had launched a buy one, get one free entree special to run May 11-16. But since all of the seafood had been stolen from the family restaurant's freezer and the sauces had been compromised, they could no longer honor the special, she said.
Busque and her family were dressed nicely for Mother's Day, all prepared for the second day of the restaurant's seasonal opening special, when they walked into the mess burglars had left behind.
Wiscasset Police officer Michael Elwell and Sgt. Kathy Williams confirmed the burglary. Elwell estimated the break-in took place sometime after closing on Saturday, May11.
“It looked like they (the burglars) did not want us to open that day,” Busque said.
She said a window on the rear door of the restaurant had been smashed in. The rugs were turned up and trash had been strewn all over the floor. She said the fax machine and copier were both broken, the cord to the fax machine had been torn out.
Busque said a laptop, cash from the cash register, wine, beer and the seafood had been taken. “I don't know why they took it,” she said. “Maybe to eat.” She added that her purse had also gone missing from underneath a counter.
Elwell said the burglary is currently under investigation. Meanwhile, the Busque family is cleaning up the restaurant and preparing new sauces and dishes for another special.
They will not be ready to run a special this week. The Busques said that next week, however, Thai Golden will offer a two for one entree, as well as a buy one, get one free curry dish.
