'Murdering the Mob' cast announced
The Waldo Theatre in Waldoboro has announced the cast of its upcoming community theatre production of Murdering the Mob, a seriously silly, laugh-out-loud, whodunit comedy where the audience helps to solve the crime!
The cast of mobsters, molls, barmaids and cops, all Midcoast residents, includes Christine Andersen, George Bates, Eve Jamieson, Valkyrie Koll, Susan LaVerdiere, Beverly Mackie, Laura Morris, Gordon Page, Rashi Verma, Rachael Schuster, Ell Stanton, Shari Wills, and Meg Wilson.
The play takes place on an evening in 1927 Boston at the celebratory opening of Louie’s Place: the city’s newest and “most exquisite” speakeasy. The joint will be full of mobsters and colorful characters with big plans, hidden motives, and plenty of secrets. The audience gets into the action of solving the crime by questioning suspects, bribing snitches, and taking their guess at the identity of the perpetrator(s).
The cast of characters includes kingpin Louie “the Squid” Calamari; his moll and former showgirl, Billie Walsh; right-hand man, Vincent Morelli; Louie’s beloved daughter and recent college graduate, Cecelia Calamari; his guy-on-the-street, Sal Assisi; his business partner, Russian Princess Naratalaya Karavenkov and a few key members of the Louie’s Place staff.
But tonight’s isn’t any ordinary celebration—all is not as it seems, booze flows, cat fights flare, cash flows like hooch and betrayals loom. Unexpected guests at the party include competing mobster Joseph “the Kid” Krake and his smart-mouthed girlfriend, Rosa Maserati; as well as one of Boston’s finest Irish cops, Lt. Francis X. McCarty.
Written by Donald K. Baillargeon, Dan Dowling and Westport Island resident Cheryl A. Salatino, the show ran at Nick’s Comedy Stop in Boston’s Theater District, with subsequent runs in Worcester, Massachusetts and Chicago, Illinois. This Waldo production will be co-directed by Ms. Salatino and Susan Hodder, Waldo executive director; costumes by Anna Marleis-Hunter, technical direction by Eddie Holm, and stage management by Shari Wills; producer is Peter Nadeau.
Performances are scheduled for Nov. 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23. Tickets on sale at thewaldotheatre.org.
