New faces onboard for parking lot project
As the plan for Damariscotta's redone municipal parking lot begin to take shape, the consultants have been put in place.
The Damariscotta Board of Selectmen approved July 2 two separate items that will influence the parking lot's future.
The board unanimously agreed to spend no more than $4,250 to bring Mitch Razor and Associates into the fold and to award the matching infrastructure grant to Milone and MacBroom for $23,000.
As part of that, the visual representation of the project will come from Razor and Associates, Town Manager Matt Lutkus said.
When the project nears the fundraising phase, having something such as mock-ups and other visual data will help the project, Damariscotta Superintendent of Roads Steve Reynolds said.
As a basis for the work, Mitch Razor put together the shore harbor study in 2010, so he comes with an immense amount of knowledge already, Lutkus said.
“He already has a lot invested (in the project),” he said. “From the committee's perspective, he's already a formal consultant and he's helped to fine-tune the ideas the committee has developed, especially in regards to the pedestrian walkway.”
The shore harbor study has been a constant companion to the new plans for the parking lot, Lutkus said.
Damariscotta had to match the $20,000 Coastal Community Development Grant with $5,000, meaning there will be administrative wiggle room for new project engineer Milone and MacBroom, Lutkus said.
Waterfront committee member Shari Sage said the firm was brought in over Wright-Pierce because of Milone and MacBroom's experience with acquiring Federal Emergency Management Agency funding.
That money will eventually be used to help develop a plan for Damariscotta businesses in regards to flood planning and mitigation.
