New personal trainer joins Boothbay Region YMCA
In early June, Ron Lambert joined the Healthy Living team at the Boothbay Region YMCA as the on-site personal trainer. As such, Lambert works with “Y” members assisting them with various aspects of fitness, equipment use and also conducts fitness assessments before designing personal fitness programs for interested members.
Lambert is certified as a personal trainer by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), one of the nation’s largest and most respected certification authorities for personal trainers. Prior to becoming a personal trainer, he had a 20-year career with Johns Hopkins University, using his counseling and teaching skills to assist graduate students with creating and reaching professional goals. He also chaired the Staff Wellness Committee at Johns Hopkins SAIS. In addition to his AFAA Certification, Lambert has a master's degree in counseling.
“In my role at Johns Hopkins, I used my coaching and teaching skills every day working with adult students from all over the world,” Lambert said. “As I began to look for my next career, I knew I wanted to continue to use these skills, but in the direction of health and fitness."
Lambert has been a long-distance runner for many years, having completed three full marathons and two triathlons. He’s an avid cyclist and sailor and he and his family have been coming to the Boothbay region for over 30 years.
“I feel so fortunate to join the YMCA team here in Boothbay. We are lucky to have such an outstanding facility in our community with an amazingly dedicated, friendly staff. I’ve been made to feel very welcome by all the members I’ve met and look forward to meeting and working with many more,” Lambert said.
Lambert is a part-time, seasonal employee of the YMCA and is available for general orientation sessions of the Y’s equipment and facilities; for informal instruction on using cardio and strength equipment; for formal fitness assessments; and regular one-on-one sessions for personal training. He enjoys working with a variety of age groups and his goal is to help people develop a fitness strategy regardless of their level of ability, and to have fun becoming and staying fit.
