‘No Kings’ rally Oct. 18 in Wiscasset
On June 14, over 1,300 Lincoln County residents lined the Wiscasset bridge from one end to the other to protest the Trump administrations attempts to do an end run around the separation of powers, subvert the Constitution, and establish an autocracy. Nationwide, it is estimated over 5 million participated in similar ‘No Kings’ rallies.
Since June the administration’s attacks on the Constitution have accelerated. ICE agents are seizing immigrants, including U.S. citizens, off our streets and whisking them away to illegal detention and deportation.President Trump and his allies are openly seeking to use the army to suppress opposition. We are one step away from ICE, aided by the army, rounding up Trump’s opponents. Lincoln County Indivisible believeswe are facing a potentially irreversible slide into an emerging police state.
Republicans in Congress have become the cheerleaders for this forced march into dictatorship. Democrats are proving to be ineffective in halting it. Courageous judges are standing up to the administration but are hamstrung by a Supreme Court stacked with Trump appointees. ‘We the People’ are the last remaining bulwark standing between the Trump administration and its assault on our democracy.
Trump’s policies are increasingly unpopular. Nationally, the Indivisible movement and its allies are calling for a second ‘No Kings’ rally to demonstrate the widespread opposition. Locally,Lincoln County Indivisible is leading the charge. We, and our supporters, will be rallying once again on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. on the Wiscasset bridge.
Lincoln County Indivisible is a non-partisan organization with a mission to work in solidarity and in coalition with others to create our vision of a real democracy -- of, by, and for the people. We strive to build a democracy that reflects a broad, multiracial ‘We the People’.A democracy that works for all of us and is sustained by all of us.
Lincoln County Indivisible is inviting all who are worried at the direction in which the U.S. is moving to join the rally on Saturday.A core requirement is that participants are non-violent, respectful, and accept the guidance of the marshals.
