Mon, 11/06/2023 - 10:15am

Check YouTube for the latest episode of Nourishing Maine “Harvest the Maine Way- Potatoes!” featuring Tim Hobbs, former Deputy at the Maine Potato Board. The show highlights Aroostook County Mashed Potato Salad and Mashed Potato Sundaes and discuss some facts and figures about the important role of Maine potatoes in the state economy.

Hobbs was delighted to showcase Maine potatoes and some unique recipes. “As long as I have known Marge, she has been a great supporter of the Maine Potato Industry.  Whether as a State Legislator or in her subsequent role with Senator King she supported not only the potato industry in Maine, but all of Maine agriculture.  I was honored that she asked me to be part of Nourishing Maine”.

So what is Nourishing Maine? Nourishing Maine is about Food, Friends, Feasts & Family. Nourishment of food for our bodies, but equal to that is the nourishment of our souls, and the nourishment we feel as part of the community of Maine.

Marge Kilkelly and Mary Kate Reny co-host. They have spent many years working in Maine communities, meeting and working with the people who make Maine special.  Often these meetings took place with hot coffee around a kitchen table, telling stories about family, friends, and inevitably, favorite Maine meals or recipes.

Marge and Mary Kate decided that those wonderful conversations and recipes needed to be shared and teamed up to develop “Nourishing Maine.” Nourishing Maine is filmed at Dragonfly Cove Farm in Dresden. The show explores our shared experiences, our connection to the land and water, and the amazing bounty of Maine food transformed into amazing dishes right here in the kitchen – a favorite place to be to share food with family and friends.

Joe Murray will join each show with his bits of advice and wisdom in a segment called The Joe Way.

Three episodes are currently running, “A Riff on Refrigerator Pickles” and “Paul Leman’s Mulligatawny Soup” and “An Apple a Day is Not Enough – Quick Apple Crisp”.

“Nourishing Maine” is co-produced by Tyality Productions and Stunt Dog Productions.  Nourishing Maine will air twice a month on YouTube - @NourishingMaine, and is currently running on Bath and Brunswick local access TV channels. You can find Nourishing Maine on Facebook, Instagram and you can contact them at nourishingmaine@gmail.com.
