October celebrations
Once in a while, especially when a new month arrives (and I don’t know what this week’s column is going to be about), I pop into the National Day Calendar to see what types of celebrations are occurring.
October is a month with several celebrations. Here are a few with personal takes on each.
I’m Just Me Because Month: Accept who you are and it’s not about what people think of you, it’s what you think of yourself.
National Physical Therapy Month: A sore knee, back pain and shoulder problems. Maybe PT is in the cards for me. How about you?
Breast Cancer Awareness Month: An important medical procedure to be done for women (and sometimes men).
National Economic Education Month: Economics courses are something I wished I had more of when I was in high school and college. Young people – pay attention here!
National Women’s Small Business Month: Here in the Midcoast we know of many women who run businesses. Congratulations to them.
National Fire Prevention Month: As we have experienced this dry summer, it is important to be ever cognizant when dealing with fire. See the previous articles on fire safety from the Boothbay Fire Department online.
Tackling Hunger Month: I’ve recently read that food pantries are hurting for funding and food donations. If you can help them, please do.
Photographer Appreciation Month: Weekly submissions from Robert Mitchell for this newspaper … enough said. We appreciate him very much.
Although October isn’t National Wedding Month, I wish our niece Ashley and her husband-to-be Ben a very nice wedding (Oct. 4), happy second anniversary to our son Tim and daughter-in-law Megan (Oct. 7) and happy 20th anniversary to our daughter and son-in-law Sara and Robbie (Oct. 22).
Have a great month everyone.
