Phillip B. Stewart
Phillip Barry Stewart, 84, of Edgecomb, Maine, passed away on Sept. 30, 2025, at LincolnHealth – Miles Campus.
Born in New York City on July 28, 1941, Phillip was the son of Jacob Schuchman and Viola (Pollack) Schuchman. A lifelong learner and passionate animal advocate, he pursued his education at Cornell University, where he earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine.
Phillip dedicated his professional life to the care and well-being of animals. As a self-employed veterinarian, he brought compassion, skill, and a deep respect for all living creatures to his work. His love for animals extended beyond his practice—he was a committed volunteer for numerous animal support organizations, offering his time and expertise to causes close to his heart.
A man of many interests, Phillip was also an avid art collector, curating a variety of collections that reflected his keen eye and thoughtful appreciation for creativity.
Phillip was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Viola. He is survived by his husband, John T. Viel, and his brother, Steven Schuchman.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Phillip’s name to a local animal shelter, continuing his legacy of compassion and care.
Phillip will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
