Phyllis Banghart Burgess of Weston, Mass., and Southport, died peacefully on April 27 at her home with her family by her side.

Phyllis was born on July 2, 1923 in South Weymouth, Mass., daughter of the late Alexandra

Scott Christie and James J. Slater. Phyllis grew up in Wollaston, Mass., and was a graduate of Thayer Academy and Colby-Sawyer College.

She was a resident of Weston for 57 years and welcomed multitudes of Weston youth to her home during the years, whether it be for dinner or more permanently moving in to complete their education in town or for a safer place to live. Phyllis was very involved with the Girl Scouts and was a troop leader for many years.

Phyllis spent her summers in Southport at her cottage “Harbor Lights” overlooking Boothbay Harbor. She loved this area and has left a legacy there for her family, where they will gather privately at a later date to remember her life, spirit and love.

She was predeceased by her first husband of 38 years, Perry T. Banghart, and her second husband of 20 years, Charles P. Burgess.

She is survived by her daughters Pamela J. Cole of Leavenworth, Kan., and Penny L. Theall and her husband, Russell, of Weston, Mass. Phyllis is also survived by her grandchildren, Connie L. Martin, Tamara J. Moeller, Crystal L. Lewis, Wendy L. Theall and Tripper T. Theall, and great-grandchildren, Katie Moeller, Jameson, Aubrey and Annalise Holland and Sarah Martin.

A graveside funeral service will be held private for her family at Linwood Cemetery in Weston. Because Phyllis loved animals so, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 27 Atlantic Highway, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME or to a charity of oneʼs choice.

The Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels of Waltham assisted the family with arrangements. For complete obituary, guestbook and additional information, visit www.brascofuneralhome.com/.
