Putting the all in fall

Wed, 09/11/2019 - 8:45am

Fun in many forms is heading Wiscasset’s way this fall, and heading the way of anyone who chooses to put Maine’s prettiest village in their fall plans: The town, businesspeople and others who live in or just love Wiscasset are eying new events and expanded ones, as we’ve been reporting.

The orange barrel festival idea has legs and they are getting stronger as Friends of Wiscasset Village deliberates on timing. Whatever dates are finalized, we hope the festival is a go, as another way to get people downtown, checking out the changes on parking, the sidewalks and more, and spending at our shops and restaurants.

And a week of scarecrow activities on the common sounds like a local newspaper’s dream for photos in a park-like setting with people showing community spirit and some competitive spirit. This expanded festival and new spot could help Wiscasset put the all in fall.

All of these will come down to planning, collaboration and, for the rest of us, showing up so all the work will have been worth it.

At wiscassetnewspaper.com, keep up with fall fun on our Fall Into the Holidays page, continually updated.

Week’s positive parting thought: The Patriots’ winning start to their season softened the blow of the Red Sox’s dashed playoff hopes. Boston made it interesting, as always, and hopefully gleaned some lessons to take into next year.
