Red Cross blood drive Jan. 31
MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Watson Medical Building in Damariscotta.
The blood drive will take place in the third-floor lobby at 24 Miles St. Community members who are feeling well are encouraged to schedule an appointment and help support patients during a critical time for blood collection.
The start of the year is one of the most challenging periods for maintainingthe blood supply. Severe winter weather and seasonal illness often lead to cancelled drives and missed appointments, while the need for blood remains constant. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every two to three seconds, and most people will need blood at some point in their lifetime.
The American Red Cross is currently experiencing constraints on red blood cell supplies, particularly Group O and Rh-negative blood types, due to reduced donor turnout. Blood donations made now help ensure hospitals can continue to meet patient needs throughout the winter months.
January is National Blood Donor Month, a time to recognize the lifesaving impact of volunteer donors and encourage those who are eligible to give.
