Red Cross responds to fire in Wiscasset February 11
The Wiscasset Fire Department responded to a shed fire in the Mobile Home Park at 285 Birch Point Road the evening of February 11. Although the fire was started by one of the occupants of the mobile home, it was not started intentionally, and no arson charges are expected, according to Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline.
The occupants of the mobile home were Ronald Williams, Tylor Miller, and Amanda Bisson; there was also a two-month-old boy in the mobile home at the time of the fire. No one was hurt.
The mobile home did not catch on fire, according to Cline; however, heat from the fire damaged the windows of the home, making it impossible for the tenants to stay in the home.
When the emergency vehicles arrived on scene, one of the occupants said the fire started because he had dropped a cigarette in the shed.
According to a press release from the American Red Cross, they were contacted by the State Fire Marshal’s office just after midnight to help meet the immediate needs of the family. Red Cross of Maine volunteer Andrew Eckman of Bremen responded to the fire.
“The Red Cross is fortunate to have trained volunteers like Andrew who are willing to get up in the middle of the night to help our neighbors in need,” said Caroline King, Interim Executive Director of the Mid Coast Chapter, in the press release. Eckman currently serves a Volunteer Disaster Services Chair and has responded to numerous home and apartment fires across the mid-coast region.
Data from the first nine months of fiscal year 2013 indicates the Red Cross is on pace to surpass the number of responses and individuals affected by house fires last year in Lincoln County. Trained volunteers have responded to nine incidents, assisting 28 individuals.
