Sailmaking with Sherm Brewer
Join the Friends of the Southport Historical Society on Monday, July 14, 7 p.m. at the Southport Town Hall (361 Hendricks Hill Road), for a talk with local sailmaker and Southport native Sherm Brewer. He will share insights into his profession and the local history of sailmaking.
Brewer, known for his traditional approach to crafting sails, works out of the East Boothbay sail loft at 15 Lincoln St. where he specializes in building ship and yacht sails. With over 10 years of sailmaking experience, and having apprenticed under local master sailmaker Nat Wilson, Brewer has used the high standards of traditional sailmaking to build sails for many historic vessels, including the sloop Clearwater, the schooner Adventure, and the brigantine Fritha. Brewer built sails for the schooner Ernestina-Morrisey during its recent restoration at Bristol Marine.
Until the 14th, learn more about Brewer and other ships he's constructed sails for at https://www.shermanbrewersailmaker.com/
