Sale still on for Boothbay Country Club
Less than a week before a bank planned to put the Boothbay Country Club up for public sale, the auction was still a go, the bank's lawyer said January 22.
Attorney Wendy Paradis said the sale was still scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the law offices of Bernstein Shur, 100 Middle St., in Portland.
The firm has been publishing notices ahead of the sale, as required by the “power of sale” foreclosure method the Bank of Maine is using.
Reached January 18, Harris Golf President Jeff Harris said the company, a former owner of the Boothbay club, still plans to bid at the auction. Harris Golf sold the club to Boothbay Country Club LLC in 2008.
There has been no comment from the club or the bank about the circumstances that led the bank to move toward foreclosure.
Boothbay Board of Selectmen Chairman Chuck Cunningham said he would like the property to go to someone who will keep it a golf course. “And I think the community at large would like to see it stay a golf course,” he said.
Cunningham said he hasn't heard about anyone being interested in buying the club for some other use.
Paradis had no information on how many prospective bidders the auction would draw. Registration to bid takes place that morning, with a required $50,000 deposit.
