Sheriff’s Office enforces holiday traffic stops
Lincoln County Sheriff's Office will be stepping up enforcement during the holidays by boosting patrol in specific parts of the county.
Lincoln County is one of the 52 state law enforcement agencies participating in “DriveSober, Maine!” a federally funded program aimed to crackdown on drunken driving.
Sergeant Jason Nein said “We're targeting the high crash areas, but that's not to say that we won't be patrolling the back roads. We're pretty much anywhere in Lincoln County.”
According to Nein similar programs such as seat belt safety, speed and aggression, and O.U.I. targeted enforcement have been in effect for 10 years and have been very successful in reducing traffic accidents and removing drunk drivers from the road.
The program started December 1 and runs through Labor Day, with scheduled patrolled traffic stops beginning sometime later this week. Stops will run throughout the holiday season.
