Silk Scarf Dyeing Workshop
River Arts is offering a one-day workshop, Japanese Shibori on a PVC Pipe with Sandi Cirillo, on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about shibori, the Japanese resist method of dyeing silk scarves using a PVC pipe. This is a unique process; as the silk is wrapped around the pipe creativity takes over, spilling color onto the pipe in layer after layer. Participants will also be given the opportunity to paint directly on the silk too. The science of art and the creativity of the individual unite in this workshop to produce two finished scarves which can be worn with pride or given as gifts.
Cirillo, who recently moved to Belfast, has been a fiber artist for 20 years and teaches a variety of workshops in Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, Maine and North Carolina.
The class size is limited and the cost is $30/members $45/nonmembers and the materials fee per person is $8, which covers all expenses and cost of two scarves.
