The snow is a-fallin’ - updated
Updates - 2 p.m.
Boothbay Public Works foreman Mike Alley says as far as the storm goes, “there isn’t much to it. I guess it’s a good way to get our feet wet!” So, no problems keeping up with road conditions in Boothbay, but it is winter, so drive with caution.
Boothbay Harbor Public Works Foreman Chris Leeman reported similarly. “It’s the first snow, and it’s been pretty light. It’s getting a little slick, but (with a laugh) it’s nothing like last winter.” Leeman added that people the crews have seen on their journeys ‘round town have been “really good about driving slowly.”
Southport’s Dennis Andrews reported no issues. “It’s a typical storm. Pretty slippery. We’ve been treating the roads and plowing. We can grin and bear it!’
Contacted the Wiscasset Town Garage, but all must have been out on the roads and so were unable to answer the call.
Andrews added that it being school vacation gave the crew a little break as far as what time crews had to get out on the roads. That time was 6 a.m.
And from the weather station: winter weather advisory remains in effect until midnight.
Snow, sleet, freezing rain ... snow accumulations 3-6 inches and a trace of ice. Sleet and snow will continue into early evening and could mix with freezing rain at times before ending later tonight. Winds are 10-15 mph with gust of up to 25 mph. Temps in low 20s to 30 - so, below freezing.
Weather conditions have created hazardous travel conditions.
Be prepared today and tomorrow for travel difficulties, slippery roads and limited visibilities.
