St. Andrew’s Church hosts 15th annual art show

There will be entertainment, antiques, music and food on August 2.

There has been a Lawn Party at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Newcastle every summer since the 1950s — but this year it will be a little different. In addition to auction items, fine food, live music and amusements for the whole family, the 2014 Lawn Party will team up for the first time with the Maine Art Show, in St. Andrew’s Parish House. Displayed inside the Parish House there will be fine art for sale from local artists, print makers, potters and painters. This is a great chance to acquire original art at reasonable prices, for your home, camp or cottage.

Proceeds from both the Maine Art Show and St. Andrew’s Lawn Party help support sixteen local, Maine-based and international organizations — ranging from the Community Energy Fund in Damariscotta, the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Newcastle to the Trinity Jubilee Center’s program for Somali families in Lewiston.

The art show goes from Friday, August 1 to Sunday, August 3, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an artists’ reception on Friday, August 1 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, under tents on the Parish House lawn on Saturday, August 2, there will be a silent auction with unusual items to peruse — glassware, rocking chairs and porch furniture, an antique sword, figurines of St. Francis and much, much more — as well as donated services to bid on, like an overnight boat trip to Pulpit Harbor with lobster dinner, an original oil painting of your garden in Maine or use of a Damariscotta Lake cottage, to name just a few. There will be lobster rolls, cold soups and fresh bakery items, plus a plant sale for colorful additions to your garden.

Don’t miss the jewelry boutique, a photography booth (“You Look Marvelous”) with dress-up costumes and rococo picture frames available for fun family photographs, the “Domestic Diva” tent where you will find cut flowers, frozen entrées for taking home and frozen hors d’oeuvres for summertime guests. There also is a children’s area with face painting and games; and live performances by no fewer than four different ensembles: Barbershop, Celtic fiddling, baroque chamber music and ragtime jazz.

There is a lot to do, see and enjoy at the Lawn Party on Glidden Street in Newcastle on Saturday, August 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at the Maine Art Show from Friday, August 1 to Sunday, August 3, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is one of the Midcoast’s most special events and helps provide financial help for warming, housing, feeding and educating severe communities of need.
