St. Philip’s gearing up for 62nd Strawberry Festival
Strawberries are ripening in the fields, soon to be transformed into the luscious shortcakes piled high with real whipped cream, as well as chocolate dipped berries, jam, and ice cream cones, that have come to be expected from the crew at St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset. Expectation is building for the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. celebration of all things strawberry. The 62nd Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 28 is a favorite of many locals, as well as those from away who look forward to the annual kick-off to the summer season.
A Children’s Area, Silent Auction, and Hot Dog Stand, will round out the plan for the day. Musician Matt O’Donnell will serenade when not gregariously chatting people up. And don’t forget the ever-popular Bargain Basement. There will be more than one find waiting to be scooped up for amazingly reasonable prices.
Children’s magician, Amazing Lou will perform at 11 a.m., donations appreciated. After his family-friendly performance, Lou will, as in years past, wander about making his delightful balloon animals and such for children and adults, alike.
Be present at noon when the popular Pie Auction will occur. Jason Simonds once again joins the Festival as boisterous auctioneer. Many homemade pies of all types will be auctioned off to the highest bidders. It is all in good, delicious fun, and the proceeds go to support the Church and its various programs.
To add to the festive atmosphere, there will be a craft show with many artisans, both in the hall and outside, some returning year after year to take part, others new to the event, but all with interesting wares for purchase. Spend some time wandering the grounds looking at and possibly taking home some of the wonderful handmade baskets, jewelry, soaps and creams, baked goods, and handiwork of other varieties.
So put the day on your calendar to join in the fun. Any questions? Call the Church Office at 882-7184, leave a message, and someone will return your call.
