State seeks Wiscasset’s OK for overlimit loads for Route 27 project
Maine Department of Transportation plans work on Route 27 from Wiscasset to Randolph, and wants Wiscasset's permission for overlimit weights on town roads. A proposal is on selectmen's agenda for Tuesday night. The meeting at the town office and at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89949074298?pwd=UllSQTRtd1RqQ1YvSEV5T0l6UWNsQT09 and the town's YouTube channel starts at 6 p.m.
The town roads involved "are not necessarily known at present, as the contractor's plan of operation won't be known until just prior to the start of work," MaineDOT states in documents posted at wiscasset.gov
Towns can require a bond to cover any damage, according to the state's Jan. 7 letter to Wiscasset; MaineDOT will, if asked, help estimate how much the bond should be for.
The letter lists plans for pavement milling, an overlay and an "ultra thin bonded wearing course."
The state will seek bids from prospective contractors in February on the federally funded project planned for this year, according to a MaineDOT announcement the town posted on Facebook in December. The work could run from spring through fall and some work might be at night, MaineDOT said.
Selectmen Tuesday were set to consider a proposed agreement for the town to issue a construction overlimit permit to the contractor to use overweight equipment and loads on town ways.
Also Tuesday, the board has a public hearing set on Ryan Hoffman Craft THC Products' request for a business license for a medical use storefront cannabis license at Mad Hatter's, 291 Bath Road. This would be a transfer from Seagrass Group, according to the hearing notice.
