Senator Chris Johnson (D-Somerville) is urging Maine residents to check the state database for unclaimed property.

“There are few things more welcome than finding money you didn’t know you had,” said Johnson. “It’s easy to look at the list, and every little bit helps.”

Every year the Office of the State Treasurer releases its annual list of unclaimed property, which consists of money and other personal assets that are considered lost or abandoned when an owner cannot be located. There is no fee to process an unclaimed property claim.  Residents may go online to search for unclaimed property at www.maine.gov/treasurer/unclaimed_property/.
