SVCA sustainable barbecue well attended

Nearly 100 SVCA members and friends attended the SVCA Barbecue last Thursday at the SVCA office in Sheepscot Village. Thankfully, the rain stayed away and everyone was able to enjoy their dinner outside during a beautiful summer evening. SVCA’s Events Committee wanted to make this year’s event sustainable getting locally grown meats from Morning Dew Farm and Tide Mill Organic Farm and compostable plates and cups from Eco-Products.
SVCA sincerely thanks the sponsors of the event: Rising Tide Community Market, Sheepscot Valley Brewing Company, Morning Dew Farm, Fisherman's Catch Seafood Market, Eco-Products, The Alna Store, Van Lloyd's Bistro and Treats.
Members also heard more about the proposed merger of SVCA with four other land and water conservation groups — Damariscotta Lake Watershed Association, Hidden Valley Nature Center, Sheepscot Wellspring Land Alliance and Pemaquid Watershed — and had a chance to ask questions. SVCA members will be asked to vote on the proposed merger at a special meeting of the members on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. at the SVCA office. More information about the merger can be found online at www.sheepscot.org/proposed-merger.
After dinner, Events Committee Chair Sharon Miller led participants in several cake “hikes” to take a chance to win one of three donated cakes from The Alna Store, Van Lloyd’s Bistro and Treats. SVCA thanks all of the volunteers that helped make the event a success.
