Swing dance at Wings Over Wiscasset August 8
This year’s Wings Over Wiscasset event happens this Friday and Saturday.
Besides the vintage World War II Warbirds airshow, a reenactment troupe camped on site, antique autos and motorcycles, veterans awards, plane and helicopter rides, and much more, on Saturday, an 18-piece Big Band, The Compaq Big Band out of Boston, will be featured at the first annual “Wings Over Wiscasset Swing Dance” Friday night.
The gate for the dance opens at 7 p.m., and the music starts around 8. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served and there will be a cash bar, including local beer from the Boothbay Craft Brewery.
The Swing Dance hangar at Wiscasset Airport will be surrounded by WWII Warbirds, and will be decorated in a “USO” theme. People are encouraged to dress in WWII era costumes. For those of us who don’t know how to “swing,” there will be a demonstration at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $35 each, and are still available at Ames Hardware, The Wiscasset Community Center, and the Wiscasset Airport. You can also purchase tickets online at wingsoverwiscasset.org. Tickets will also be available at the airport gate, starting at 7 p.m.
This event is first come, first serve, so don’t miss out on one of the most unique events to hit the Midcoast region this year.
