“The Lion King” — Last week by popular demand -  From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau's all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub's arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother-and former heir to the throne-has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. “Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse” -  Exhibition on Screen -  Friday, Aug. 9, 2 p.m. with an introduction and Q & A with Vanessa Nesvig, Interpretation and Exhibits Coordinator at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Refreshments provided by Eventide Specialties at 1:30 p.m.  This dazzling film takes a magical journey from the gallery to the gardens, to Giverny and Seebull and other glorious grounds favored by artists. Here we discover how early twentieth century artists designed and cultivated their own gardens to explore contemporary utopian ideas and motifs of color and form. Monet said, ”Apart from painting and gardening, I’m no good at anything.” For lovers of art or lovers of garden, this is an ideal film. “42nd Street – The Musical” -  “42nd Street” is the song and dance, American dream fable of Broadway, featuring the West End’s biggest cast on Theatreland’s oldest stage, Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Featuring the iconic songs “42nd Street,” “We’re in The Money,” “Lullaby Of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off To Buffalo,” “Dames” and “I Only Have Eyes For You,” this is a musical unlike any other. 42nd Street follows young Peggy Sawyer, fresh off the bus from small-town America and just another face in the chorus line on Broadway’s newest show. But when the leading lady gets injured, Peggy might just have the shot at stardom she’s always dreamed of. The show opened on Broadway in 1980, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical and Best Choreography and in London’s West End in 1984, when it won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical. The 2001 Broadway revival then won the Tony for Best Revival. A night at the theatre doesn’t get larger-scale than 42nd Street, so come and meet those dancing feet! ”Kinky Boots – The Musical” -  Big-hearted and high-spirited, the West End musical filmed at London’s Adelphi Theater, and inspired by true events, tells the true story of Charlie Price, the new owner of his late father’s Northampton shoe factory. Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save the family business from bankruptcy, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola, an entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos. An uplifting tale of success against the odds! The West End production of Kinky Boots features a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, music and lyrics by Grammy® and Tony® Award winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper and direction by Jerry Mitchell (whose credits include ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Legally Blonde The Musical.’ (2 hours, 13 minutes - includes one 10-minute intermission) Playing Thursday, Aug. 1 at 2 and 7 p.m.. “A Grand Night for Singing – A Celebration of Rodger’s & Hammerstein” - LCCT production - Taste and imagination, the two key ingredients for a first-rate revue, abound in this fresh take on the Rodgers & Hammerstein canon presented by LCCT, the resident theater company of Lincoln Theater. This fully staged production, complete with orchestra and cast of more than 20 performers, is being created with direction and choreography by Emily Mirabile and music direction by John Mulcahy. This R&H musical revue opened the 1994 Broadway season with flair and distinction, garnering wildly enthusiastic notices as well as earning two Tony nominations, including Best Musical.

The R&H founding fathers probably never imagined 'Shall We Dance?' as a comic pas de deux for a towering beauty and her diminutive admirer, nor did they suspect that one day a lovelorn young lad might pose the musical question, 'How do you solve a problem like Maria?' But that's precisely the kind of invention lavished upon this revue, with innovative musical arrangements including a sultry Andrews Sisters-esque 'I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out-a My Hair,' a swingin' 'Honeybun' worthy of the Modernaires, and a jazzy 'Kansas City' which leaves no question about how terrifically up to date the remarkable songs of R&H remain.
