Thomas visits Boothbay Railway Village

“Thomas the Tank Engine” was on hand Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Boothbay Railway Village so that children could visit the full-sized replica of the iconic children's book and television character.
Dozens of children from Central Maine came to visit and have their pictures taken in front of the engine.
"He loves the train," said Mike Denman of Appleton who was with his son, Lucas, 2.
Thomas had been in Boothbay for a paint job and mechanical repairs before heading to his home, Edanville USA in Carver, Massachusetts.
“It was a nice way to say good-bye,” Boothbay Railway Village Director Margaret Hoffman said.
Although it does not pull trains, Thomas has mechanisms to speak, move his mouth and eyes and blow its horn.
“Thomas the Tank Engine” is a fictional steam locomotive developed by the Rev. Wilbert Avery that was featured in a series of children’s books called “The Railway Series.”
The character then became part of a television series, “Thomas and Friends.”
