Three vie for selectman's seat in Dresden
Nominations closed in Dresden a week ago for the annual town elections June 11 with three candidates running for the second selectman post, which opened with the resignation of selectman David Probert.
Entering the selectmen’s race for the first time, Melanie Gaczi, Lauren Haven and Gerald Lilly will vie for the three-year position.
Probert announced his resignation earlier this year, citing his frustration with the seeming lack of interest in town politics. He complained about low attendance at public town board meetings and lack of volunteerism and support.
Two candidates have announced their candidacy for the one-year position of town property tax collector: incumbent Ann Pierce and Susan Bickford-Lilly.
Other positions for town offices this year have no contests. The list of candidates includes incumbent Kim Rzasa for the one-year positions of town treasurer, town clerk, and excise tax collector.
Also, incumbent Michael Terrell seeks to renew his three-year position on the KIDS RSU 2 Board of Directors representing Dresden.
No one has declared candidacy for the vacancy on the budget review committee, a three-year position.
Dresden’s polling place for the election portion of the annual town meeting will be held on Election Day, Tuesday, June 11 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Pownalborough Hall. The town meeting will resume for public discussion and vote on town warrant articles on Saturday, June 15 at 9 a.m. at Pownalborough Hall.
