Tis the season, again

Have any electing to do in your town, in contested races or otherwise? And how about that springtime staple, the annual town meeting? Those will be cropping up with or, in some cases, before the flowers.

Our coverage in Wiscasset Newspaper and Boothbay Register has shown, selectmen are well on their way toward printing their towns’ warrants with all the budget questions and sometimes others for voters to determine the next year’s spending and more. Do you plan to vote? Why or why not?

If not, please find a way. Absentee ballots are the answer to just about any reason people don’t cast their local and other votes that help determine taxes and other government business. But absentee ballots can’t by themselves counter apathy. That’s on you.

The presidential primaries and U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ potential swing votes in the impeachment trial have gotten added national attention on Maine this year. It’s a good time to re-commit yourself to being a regular at the polls or town office to vote absentee. Show the nation and the world it can count Maine in on having a say – not that you need more reason to do something so American and important, regardless of what and who is on the ballot. It’s the thing to do.

Week’s positive parting thought: First, one more shout-out from the county seat area to all the Seahawks for their strong season and exciting post-season. Thank you! And second, according to the website day.to, Thursday, Feb. 27 makes three weeks til spring. Some inland snow was possible this week at press time, but all in all, it looks like Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction for an early spring is spot on!
