Updates from Veggies to Table: Seed donations, Supper Club, recent donors

Sowing seeds

For the third year in a row Veggies to Table has donated thousands of packets of seeds to local pantries, schools, and partners, giving community members a chance to start their own garden and grow their own food. Seeds were given to the Jefferson Area Community Food Pantry, the Boothbay Region Food Pantry, Ecumenical Food Pantry in Newcastle, FARMS at the Y, Wiscasset Middle High School, and local families. Over 2,000 packets of seeds were donated this year alone, and our goal is to donate even more next year.

If you did not receive seeds and would like some, come on down to the Wiscasset McDonald’s from 4-7 p.m. on April 28 for a fundraiser that is being organized by Wiscasset Middle High and McDonald’s. Part of the proceeds will be donated to Veggies to Table to help end hunger in our community. As over 12% of Lincoln County residents, and one in four children, don’t have enough food to eat daily, you can help us make a difference. Students will be handing out packets of seeds to community members so even more people can be planting and growing this spring.

Thank you to Hart Seed Company, Botanical Interests, High Mowing Seeds Sow True Seeds, Johnny’s Seeds, and the Hudson Valley Seed Company for their support by donating seeds to us.

Supper Club

It’s not too late to join Veggies to Table for their April Virtual Supper Club on the 14th at 6 p.m. Guest speaker Irene Brady Barber of the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens will talk about “native edibles for people and pollinators.”

Recent Veggies to Table sponsors

A huge thank you to recent sponsors Damariscotta Hardware, Chapman and Chapman Insurance, Postal Center USA, and to the Bangor Savings Bank for their grant to finish off our cold storage unit.
