Veggies to Table welcomes 'Tiny Farmers' and expands educational offerings
On Tuesday, June 23, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Veggies to Table welcomes children ages 5–9 and their caregivers to the farm for “Tiny Farmers,” a fun, educational, and and interactive morning of seed starting and storytime.
Young gardeners will decorate planting pots, learn the basics of starting seeds, enjoy a reading of "Grow, Seed, Grow!" by Caroline Derlatka, and take home seedlings of their own to nurture and grow.
With hands in the soil, the group will dig into the fascinating journey from seed to plant and discover the everyday magic happening all around us in the garden.
"Tiny Farmers is about cultivating curiosity and wonder,” said Erica Berman, founder and executive director of Veggies to Table. “We can't wait to welcome young learners to the farm and see what grows."
Education is a core pillar of Veggies to Table's work. Tiny Farmers is the first class in an expanded season of educational programming designed to equip gardeners of all ages and skill levels with practical skills, confidence, expert tips, and techniques to grow healthy and productive gardens. Throughout the summer, the nonprofit will host additional classes and workshops both on and off the farm, including a dahlia dividing and storage workshop led by Erica Berman, along with classes led by the farm team on pruning and trellising, natural pest management, interplanting, a sensory tour of the farm, and more. Details will be announced throughout the season.
Tiny Farmers participants should come prepared with clothes that can get dirty, a hat, sunscreen, and water, as the event will take place outdoors.
