Virginia “Ginny” Clark Kingsley Jones died the afternoon of April 21, 2013 at Covenant Hospice at Bay Medical Center, Panama City, Fla.

She was born June 4, 1919 to Ethelle Mae and Chester Sumner Kingsley in Portland.

She spent her early childhood in Augusta and Bath, then the family moved to Caribou, where she graduated from Caribou High School in 1935. She went on to Colby College in Waterville, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in medical technology, graduating in 1939.

She worked temporarily in some hospitals until the spring of 1941, when she was hired by Dr. George Gregory to work in the laboratory at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor. She met William Edward Jones when he was a patient there in 1942, and they were married November 7, 1943. Their only child, Judith Ann Jones (now Stevens) was born March 17, 1945.

She worked there until her husband took a job in Boston, Mass. for a year in 1949, then they moved back to East Boothbay. She worked in the office of Hodgdon Bros. Shipyard from 1957 until the early 1970s, then went back to run the laboratory of St. Andrews Hospital until her retirement in June 1984.

She was very active in the St. Andrews Hospital Auxiliary of which she was president for two years, and also served on the hospital board during the 1990s to 2000. She was also a longstanding member of the Boothbay Region Garden Club for many years, and joined the Panama City Garden Club, Mockingbird Circle, when she moved here to be with family in 2001. She also joined the Gulf Jazz Society upon her move to Florida and was on the board of that as well.

She was predeceased by her parents, then her husband, William, in 1985.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Stevens and husband, Joel; her grandson, Justin Smith and wife Sandi and their children Caleb and Madison, all of the Panama City area; and her granddaughter, Janet Webber and her husband, Bill Leavy of Scarborough.

She was cremated and there was a memorial celebration of Ginny's life at Joel and Judy's home on May 5. The family will be coming to Boothbay in July and are looking forward to a memorial service there at that time; date, time and location to be announced.

Donations in remembrance of Ginny may be made to the cause to keep St. Andrews Hospital's emergency room open.
