This week at the Lincoln Theater
This week we kick off Season 8 of our beloved Classic Film Club. We are excited to celebrate Hollywood with all of you over the next six months with six fabulous films!
“The Thin Man” (1934; 1 hour, 31 minutes) - The first film in season 8 of The Classic Film Club – Stars & Noirs! The recently divorced Clyde Wynant discovers that his new girlfriend has stolen $50,000 and is carrying on with other men. Not long afterward, he disappears. Anxious to locate her father, Wynant's daughter goes to private detective Nick Charles for help. William Powell and Myrna Loy play an iconic screen team in the first film in a blockbuster six-pic franchise. The film was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Screenplay. Jeannie MacDonald returns to Lincoln Theater to host our Classic Film Club series. Playing Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets: $10 adult, $7 LT membera and youth, Free for Classic Film Club Members. “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” (PG; 2 hours, 3 minutes) - The cinematic return of the global phenomenon, follows the Crawley family and their staff as they enter the 1930s. When Mary finds herself at the center of a public scandal and the family faces financial trouble, the entire household grapples with the threat of social disgrace. The Crawleys must embrace change as the staff prepares for a new chapter with the next generation leading Downton Abbey into the future. Continuing Thursday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. (with Open Captions) and 7 p.m., and the final screening on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. Presented in partnership with Colby & Gale.
The Met Live in HD: “La Bohėme” (approx. runtime: 3 hours, 29 minutes - 2 Intermissions) - With its enchanting setting and spellbinding score, the world’s most popular opera is as timeless as it is heartbreaking. Franco Zeffirelli’s picture-perfect production brings 19th-century Paris to the Met stage as Puccini’s young friends and lovers navigate the joy and struggle of bohemian life. Soprano Juliana Grigoryan is the feeble seamstress Mimì, opposite tenor Freddie De Tommaso as the ardent poet Rodolfo. Keri-Lynn Wilson conducts. Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. Tickets: $25 adult, $23 LT member, $5 youth.
Free - “Screenagers: The Next Chapter” (NR; 1 hour, 3 minutes) - MaineHealth, in partnership with Lincoln Theater, invites you to us for a special free event and talkback. Millions of young people experience high stress, anxiety, and depression. In Screenagers Next Chapter: Addressing Mental Health in the Digital Age, we follow physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston as she discovers solutions for improved adolescent stress, anxiety, and depression in the digital age. Playing Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
Exhibition on Screen: “Caravaggio” (NR; 1 hour, 30 minutes) - The most extensive film ever made about one of the greatest artists of all time. Featuring masterpiece after masterpiece and with first-hand testimony from the artist himself on the eve of his mysterious disappearance, this beautiful new film reveals Caravaggio as never before. Multi-award-winning filmmakers David Bickerstaff and Phil Grabsky delve into the hidden narratives of Caravaggio’s life, piecing together clues embedded within his incredible art. The intriguing self-depictions within his works — sometimes disguised, sometimes in plain sight — offer a rare window into his psyche and personal struggles as we unravel the story of one of history’s most brilliant, complex and controversial figures. Caravaggio’s incredible paintings have captivated audiences for centuries. But there lies a deeper mystery — one that still beckons us to explore.
