Welcome sign, welcome sight

Wed, 08/21/2019 - 8:45am

The other day, three people were taking their pictures at the “Welcome to Wiscasset: The Prettiest Village in Maine” sign. Always great to see people just happy to be here, whether here is the destination, a stopover, or it’s home.

When you figure in foliage, Pumpkinfest and now the holiday events that light up the Boothbay peninsula, tourist time will keep on ticking. Yet with all the signs of school returning, like the soccer practice and the bus routes we report on this week, and the slightest feel of a fall breeze one recent morning, that Labor Day ends summer mentality is hard to shake.

    But shake it off.

Marvel at a dragonfly, have lunch on the waterfront, tour a historic building you’ve always passed by, or go to the season’s final art walks. And maybe, if you never have or haven’t in a long time, take your picture or your family’s at the welcome sign.

Send us it, if you would: news@wiscassetnewspaper.com. We’d love to see it and will share as many as possible.

Week’s positive parting thought: Even the calendar says summer has another month. Make it incredible.
