WES sing-along spreads holiday cheer

On Friday Dec. 21, Wiscasset Elementary School's annual Holiday Sing-Along had the elementary chorus singing four enjoyable holiday songs in the gym. Students, staff, family and friends all watched and sang along to the pieces.

The chorus opened with “Sing in the Holidays.” Next, a fun song, “Yo Vivo Cantando!” featured students on various instruments such as the claves, maracas, drums and a vibraslap. The third song was another fun piece, "The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers"  that chorus members brought out kazoos for. The chorus closed this part of the event with  "Jingle Bell Jazz,” which included choreography the students did while singing.

Carole Drury directs the elementary chorus, and ran the concert program for the sing-along. Drury incorporated audience members throughout the concert and invited staff members to come join her in front of the audience, where they sang a Christmas carol for everyone to enjoy and join in on. Along with this, the staff members at WES also participated in an ugly sweater competition. Audience members decided whose sweater was the best. They cheered  for those they favored most.

When Drury invited more of her friends out to perform for the audience, several staff members came out dressed as chipmunks to perform the Alvin and the Chipmunks song “Christmas Don’t Be Late.” This seemed to be a crowd favorite as the students all laughed and sang along.

Song lyrics to many different holiday songs were projected onto a big screen so  everyone could sing along as they pleased.  The event was a success as so many community members came out to support and be involved.
