Westport Island town meeting scheduled for June 29
Westport Island selectmen announced at their meeting Monday evening the town’s annual town meeting will be held Saturday, June 29 at the historic town hall, with election of town officials on June 28.
The warrant will include several ordinance changes as well as a new Mobile Home and new Mobile Home Park ordinance.
The selectmen reviewed the proposed ordinances at their meeting and discussed some revisions to them. Planning Board Chairman Ruth Nelson will take the changes back to the planning board.
The ordinances will be reviewed again by the town attorney before public hearings are held for public comment.
Selectman Gerald Bodmer is also hopeful that the vote for the town to withdraw from Sheepscot Valley School Unit 12 can be held at the June 28 vote.
Wright property
The furnace at the Wright house, which is owned by the town, has not been working properly. Wright Committee member Richard DeVries attended the selectmen’s last week and told the selectmen the fuel tank is what is creating the problem, not the furnace.
He suggested that a double filter system be installed in the tank and having the sludge flushed out of the bottom of the tank.
The selectmen contacted a licensed burner technician this past week and asked about the double filter system. The board was told a double filter wasn’t needed. Instead, it was suggested instead of changing the filter in the tank once each year, to have it changed twice a year, and it would give the same results as having two filters in the tank.
Wright Committee member Richard DeVries will do an analysis of the tank and get back to the board with his findings.
Other business
Westport Island’s three selectmen will be attending the elected officials’ workshop to be held on August 28, in Augusta. The cost of each selectman to attend is $50.
The selectmen accepted with regret the resignation of planning board member John Crispin.
