Westport Island updates
Like the werewolf said, license those pups for 2026! You can do it here, or you can do it online, but do it before the end of January, when the fines get really scary. All you need is a current rabies certificate.
Absentee Voting underway for Nov. 4 Referendum Election: Absentee voting is underway! Voters may vote in person at the Town Office during regular hours, or request a ballot to be sent or picked up by using the state's online absentee ballot request webpage or filling out a paper absentee ballot application and returning it to the Town Office. The deadline to vote in person or request a ballot is Thursday, Oct 30. Nov. 4, polls will be open at the Old Town Hall, 1217 Main Road, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
WCA "Halloween Harvest in Nature Scavenger Hunt," Oct. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m., Segerstrom Preserve, upper West Shore Road entrance: While the Town Hall is getting a makeover, the WCA is moving the Halloween festivities outside! Join them for a nature-themed scavenger hunt, and enjoy apples, cider, and treat bags for the kiddos.
WCA Newsletter needs you! The WCA bi-monthly newsletter is only as interesting as the content our islanders provide. Please consider contacting them with ideas, an article, a family recipe, or a favorite joke. New residents: If you are interested in being mentioned and or interviewed in an upcoming edition, they would love to hear from you. What a great way for you to introduce yourselves to Westport Island and for us to learn a little about you! Reach out to westportcommunityassociation@gmail.com
Neighbor to Neighbor seeking donations: The new Neighbor to Neighbor organization would like to thank the island community for the great support generated by their recent mailing. Available services will initially include food assistance, heating assistance, and a growing supply of donated adaptive equipment to borrow. They are also seeking volunteers to join Lincoln County FISH (Friends in Service Helping) to provide rides to islanders needing a lift (see next announcement below). Please contact Karen and Neil Stanton to make a donation, ask questions, or request assistance at neighbortoneighborwi@gmail.com or phone/text 978-771-8012.
Join FISH! Interested in helping your neighbors with rides? Contact FISH (Friends in Service Helping) to sign up as a volunteer driver. You can serve just Westport Islanders, or you can be available for the broader Lincoln County area. Or, do you need a ride yourself? FISH has volunteers willing to drive you where you need to go (with 24-48 hours notice). Contact FISH at lincolncountyfish@gmail.com or call at 350-9808.
