William D. Wallace

William D. Wallace of Naples, Fla., and Boothbay Harbor died Sunday April 7, 2013.

He was born September 30, 1922, in Saginaw, Mich., the son of Stanley and Hazel Wallace. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Wallace. His caring friend, Linda Groton, was by his side until his death.

He leaves behind his son, William S. Wallace of Naples, Fla., and his daughter, Diane D. Ralston of St. Pete Beach, Fla. Left with fond memories are his four grand children: Sheila Hinton, Robert Ralston, Bill Wallace, and Lisa Santos.

His eleven great-grandchildren include: Gregg Birdy, Russell Birdy, Jessica Birdy, Crystal Santos, Elizabeth Wallace, Justin Wallace, Robert Ralston, Christina Ralston, Christopher Hinton, Brooke Hinton and Sara Hinton. His great-great-grand children are: Sophia Wallace, Sofia Birdy and Olivia Lorek.

William, a World War II veteran, served in Artillery under Patton in Germany and France. He was in the resort business and past president of the Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce. He loved hunting and fishing in both Maine and Florida.

During his retirement, he visited many countries. The highlight of his travels was to the memorial of his famous ancestor, William Wallace of Scotland. Very much like his ancestor, he believed in living a life of freedom and independence.

William's ashes were spread on the waters of the Gulf of Mexico by his family on April 12, 2013 to honor his last request.
