Raffle winner Jarryl Larson and her husband, Byron Johnson of Edgecomb, headed off to North Haven Island recently to take part in the "American as Apple Pie" cooking class given by U.S. Representative Chellie Pingree. The class, along with an elegant dinner at the Nebo Lodge and a boat ride to and from the island, was the grand prize of Lincoln County Democrats’ “Treat for Two” raffle.

“Chellie took great pleasure in teaching the art of pie baking. The class was wonderful and dinner was elegant,” Larson said. “What was different is that we, along with several others and Chellie, ate together at a family table. In such a setting you automatically get into conversations that you would not have otherwise. The entire evening was remarkable.”

The raffle drawing took place at the 2015 Lincoln County Democrats’ Lobster Bake, which was held once again at the beautiful river-side property of Linda and Dirk Brunner in South Bristol. The annual event brought together Lincoln County Democrats and friends who enjoyed much good food, including lobsters steamed in seaweed by Jeff Hurd and crew from The Narrows Tavern in Waldoboro, a raw oyster bar compliments of Smokey McKeen and associates at Pemaquid Oyster Company of Waldoboro, and music by Lincoln County’s Old Grey Goose.

Guests also enjoyed mingling and listening to speakers Troy Jackson, member of the Democratic National Committee and former state senate majority leader from Aroostook County; and Lincoln County’s Sen. Chris Johnson, Rep. Mick Devin, and County Commissioners Bill Blodgett and Mary Trescot.

The next monthly meeting of Lincoln County Democrats will take place Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Community Room at the Newcastle Fire Department on River Road. Plans are also underway for a Fall Harvest dinner in October; date and location will be announced.
