Wiscasset Art Walk returns June 25
The vibrant heart of downtown Wiscasset will come alive on Thursday, June 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. as Wiscasset Art Walk welcomes residents and visitors for an evening celebrating local art, creativity, music and community connection. Wiscasset Art Walk is free and open to the public. Held throughout the historic village, from Railroad Avenue to Federal and Warren streets, Wiscasset Art Walk invites guests to stroll through galleries, shops, studios and public spaces while enjoying exhibitions by regional artists, live performances, refreshments and special events hosted by participating businesses.
Wiscasset Bay Gallery will feature "American Light," new and selected photographs by Cordelia Edwards. Be sure to visit the garden courtyard where refreshments await and enjoy the accompanying sounds of Dave Lawlor playing jazz guitar. Nearby, Sylvan Gallery, specializing in contemporary New England artists, is celebrating 25 years. Gallery artists Roberta Goschke of Waldoboro and Erin Spencer of coastal Rhode Island, will be there with their most recent paintings on display. Refreshments will be served with live music provided by Neil Lamb. Now located only at 55 Water St., Trifles offers a fine, eclectic mix of antique and vintage furniture, ceramics, books and art, as well as "cabinets of curiosities." Owner Helen Robinson will be serving wine and her special smoked salmon dip.
Also on Water Street, The Bird Gallery will host an opening reception with wine and cheese for the exhibition "Gay Birds;" 10%of the proceeds from the show will be donated to Equality Maine. Maine Art Gallery at 15 Warren St. is pleased to present Song of the Wild: Honoring the Natural Beauty of Maine." The featured artists are landscape painters Eric Hopkins, Jane Dahmen, Sarah Farragher and Matt Barter; fresco artist Barbara Sullivan; mixed media artist Lesia Sochor; photographer Liv Kristin Robinson; and abstract painters Katherine Shagas, Joy Vaughan and Emily Sabino. Bradbury Art & Antiques, Peter Eaton Antiques and Ingram Art & Antiques on Main Street, Michael Dunn Antiques on Middle Street and Red Bull Antiques & Decor on Federal Street each offer paintings and rare and unusual objects. The Butterstamp Workshop also on Middle Street specializes in unique folk art and The Peaceful Pagan Vintage on Railroad Avenue joins the antiques group with a curated collection of choice antique and vintage clothing. Kindred Kneads & Healing Arts will be offering free mini chair massages outside The Peaceful Pagan.
Explore the many other Village shops open the evening of Wiscasset Art Walk, including Rock Paper Scissors, where you will find a collection of thoughtfully chosen objects for you and your home; a new store, Midcoast Creative Studio, with a wonderful trove of "playful gifts and curious goods" and The Widener Company with its delightful collection of interior goods. Eric McIntyre of Village Handcraft offers a working storefront where he will be demonstrating the art of broommaking. Across the street, Fiction Bookshop owner Tony Chappell will be hosting authors Marita Fairfield (4:15-5:15) and Buddy Doyle (5:30-6:30), who will be signing their books.
The village boasts a varied collection of eating and drinking establishments that will be open during Wiscasset Art Walk. Grab a brew at Aekeir Tap Room, savor some locally sourced oysters at Jolie Rogers Raw Bar, enjoy comfort food at Panacea, check out the newly reinvented Treats wine bar, pick up a delicious lobster roll at Red’s Eats and Sprague’s Lobster and/or indulge in a surprise specialty cocktail at Water Street Kitchen & Bar.
