The Wiscasset boys' soccer team scored three first-half goals Sept. 8 enroute to a 4-1 victory over Islesboro. Wiscasset coach Shanon Cotta reported his team had several other outstanding scoring attempts in the second half, but Islesboro goalie Ryder Durkee made several spectacular saves. "We had a breakaway, but the goalie was outstanding and made a great save. We controlled possession and overall tempo to win the game," he said.

Cotta described his team's relentless pressure on Islesboro's back line as the game's decisive factor. "We kept the pressure on, which enabled us to win comfortably," he said. "Creative passing resulted in improved striker play. Paul Lambert filled the attacking space and scored from a terrific Gavin James assist."

Wiscasset improves to 1-0-1. Islesboro drops to 0-2. The Wolverines host Pine Tree Academy (2-0), a private school in Woolwich, Friday, Sept. 11.
