Wiscasset’s climate team starts public talk series
A new public talk series about Earth and environment in the Sheepscot Valley is being presented by the Wiscasset Climate Action Team. "Coastal flooding: What's driving it, and why it's getting worse" will take place April 24, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Ekeir Brewing, 111 Main St., Wiscasset.
A community conversation with Dr. Hannah Baranes of Gulf of Maine Research Institute about why coastal flooding is affecting our coast more frequently and how we can plan for a more resilient future along the Wiscasset waterfront and beyond. Free presentation and discussion.
Baranes leads the Coastal Dynamics Lab at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. Her lab studies physical phenomena in the coastal environment, including coastal flooding, winter-season cyclones (Nor'easters and Sou'easters), and the evolution of tidal flats. She also collaborates with partners throughout the Gulf of Maine region to develop flood management solutions. She is working with the National Weather Service to expand and improve flood forecasting, has worked with Maine DEP to modify state rules for effective management of future sea level rise, and serves as a member of the Maine Climate Council's Scientific and Technical Subcommittee.
