Wiscasset head-on injures two

A two-car crash on Wiscasset’s Route 1 in front of Wiscasset Ford Wednesday night, Feb. 10 shut down traffic for five hours and sent a Bath woman and a child to a hospital. The extent of their injuries was not known.

Lincoln Communications Center received a report of the accident about 7:10 p.m. Wiscasset Police, Fire, and EMS departments responded.

Tyler James, 26, of Damariscotta was driving south on Bath Road (Route 1) in a 2017 Freightliner flatbed tow truck owned by QuickTurn Towing of Damariscotta. Evelyn Underwood, 24, of Bath was driving north on Bath Road in a 2007 Subaru Forester. A 4 year-old girl, a passenger in the Forester, was secured in a child restraint seat in the back seat.

Underwood allegedly crossed the center line and entered the southbound travel lane and struck the tow truck head-on.

Wiscasset Fire freed Underwood from the wreckage with extraction equipment. Wiscasset EMS transported Underwood and the child. James was not hurt.

Wiscasset police had help at the scene from the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Division and Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office who are reconstructing the accident.

The investigation is ongoing and police believe there were witnesses who left the scene prior to police arrival. If you witnessed the accident or have any information on it, contact Wiscasset Police Department at 882-8203.
