The Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit 12 Board of Directors approved almost unanimously Wiscasset's plan for withdrawal from the school district during their meeting in Windsor May 9.

This vote in the affirmative followed a 20-minute executive session at the start of the regular meeting of the board.

Since the plan has been approved by majority vote by both ad-hoc RSU Withdrawal Committee and Wiscasset Withdrawal Committee members and board members, it will now be submitted to the Department of Education commissioner for approval. The commissioner has 60 days to approve the plan.

If approved, Wiscasset residents will cast their vote to withdraw or not withdraw. Ad-hoc RSU Withdrawal Committee Chairman Malinda Caron said Wiscasset residents could be casting their votes on this issue in November.
