The Wiscasset High School Student Council went to Togus Dec. 9 to visit with the veterans there. This was the students’ annual holiday visit with the veterans. Students sang holiday songs, made ornaments, decorated trees and visited with the veterans.

Students received service pins from American Legion Regional Commander Bill Cossette Jr. of Wiscasset. The students enjoyed talking with the veterans and listening to their stories of their military service. The students gave the veterans warm, handmade lap blankets as gifts. The blankets were made by Joan Reed of Wiscasset.

Students wrote heartfelt essays about the experience when they returned to WMHS. This annual visit has become very important to all those involved. “I am so proud of my students and the way they connect with the veterans,” WMHS’ WHS Student Council Advisor and Technology Coordinator Deb Pooler said. “It is so heartwarming to be able to bring a bit of joy to these veterans at Togus during the holiday season! The kids look forward to it every year!”
