Woolwich man indicted over skateboarder death

A Woolwich man has been indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury for Leaving the Scene of An Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury or Death, according to court records. The grand jury report was made public Feb. 10. If convicted, Ernest M. Patti, 37, of Woolwich, faces the possibility of five years in prison.

Wayne Harwood, 25, of Portland, was struck July 10; he was hit by a white sedan as he rode his skateboard at the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Avon Street in Portland. According to court documents, a witness said the driver paused for about 20 seconds, then fled the scene. Harwood died two days later.
